Remembering Jack Hopwood

When you visit the plaza next, you will notice this lovely plaque installed in memory of our dear friend Jack Hopwood.

Jack passed away this year at the grand age of 105, a week before his 106th birthday.

Jack was a great friend of Claremont Plaza, visiting daily. He was an avid sweet tooth who loved party pies, cream cakes, and coffee.

A big thank you to his family for contacting us and allowing us to commemorate Jack this way.  Pictured here are Jack’s family Aaron (Grandson), Peter (Son) and Kristina (Granddaughter) John (Son).

Lovely memories of a much-loved man.

We are incredibly proud to partner with The Smith Family – Australia’s leading children’s educational charity helping young Australians in need to succeed at school, so they can create better futures for themselves. We recently ran a School Rewards program across 5 shopping centres in Tasmania. This program gave local schools the chance to fundraise by winning cash for their school. Additionally, we were able to raise funds for The Smith Family and last week we presented a large cheque for $963 that was raised through the program. This donation will be supporting The Smith Family’s flagship Learning for Life program, which currently supports the education of 2,349 young Tasmanians from disadvantaged backgrounds. Learning for Life provides students with access to additional learning programs, like Passport, which prepares students for the important move from Primary to Secondary school. “I am feeling confident about moving to high school because Passport helped me get over my fear.” – Passport student
